“Our recent family trip to Morocco was an unforgettable journey, blending personal connections, cultural immersion, and breathtaking landscapes. Mohamed, my partner, our two children, and I set out to explore the rich heritage of his homeland, centred in the vibrant city of Marrakech, where he grew up. The bustling souks, the scent of spices filling the air, and the intricate beauty of the architecture created a sensory feast. Throughout our time there, we experienced the warmth of Moroccan hospitality, savoured the local cuisine, and embraced the traditions that define Mohamed's family and their way of life.
Beyond Marrakech, we ventured to the coastal town of Essaouira, the cinematic vistas of Ouarzazate, and the tranquil mountain village of Zerkten, where we stayed in a charming boarding house that resembled a castle. With the students on holiday, the peaceful setting allowed us to deepen our bond with Mohamed’s cousin, the village school’s principal. Throughout our journeys, I was struck by the striking contrasts Morocco offers—from the frenetic energy of the cities to the quietude of rural life, from age-old traditions to the pulse of modernity, and from beauty to hardship. This exhibition captures those contrasts, blending spontaneous moments with imagined interpretations, in an attempt to convey the dynamic spirit of Morocco.”
